Shakespeare by the Sea

Summer 2025 | Company Classes

Untellable Movement Theatre is proud to partner with Shakespeare by the Sea to offer a dynamic series of company classes and workshops as part of the 2025 season. Developed through our Incubator Program, these sessions are crafted to support performers, creatives, and production staff throughout the rehearsal process, offering tools for physical storytelling, ensemble connection, and safe, collaborative creation.

These classes are open to all company members and are led by Lynn Panting and Jaimie Tait.

Workshop Lineup

Rehearsing with Care: Movement Literacy, Consent Culture & Performance Safety

Facilitated by Lynn Panting
For Full Company | 90 minutes

This foundational session introduces key tools for body awareness, ensemble connection, and rehearsal safety. Participants will engage in warm-up techniques, movement literacy exercises, and ensemble-building strategies that foster physical and emotional well-being. The session also lays the groundwork for a culture of consent—centering mutual respect, communication, and care in the creative process.

Ideal for: Actors, directors, stage managers, and anyone who engages in collaborative storytelling.

From Text to Body: Embodying Character Through Movement Design

Facilitated by Lynn Panting
For Small Group | 90 minutes

This deeper-dive session explores how movement supports character development and scene work. Participants will create personal movement vocabularies, analyze physical and spatial dynamics, and experiment with how bodies in space shape story and tone. Rooted in movement dramaturgy, this class supports actors in crafting performances that are both grounded and expressive.

Ideal for: Actors and directors looking to explore character through the body.

Viewpoints in Practice: Time, Space, and Ensemble Connection

Facilitated by Jaimie Tait
For Small to Mid-Sized Groups | 3 hours

This workshop introduces performers to the Viewpoints technique, a movement-based improvisational method that develops awareness, presence, and ensemble sensitivity. Participants will explore elements such as tempo, spatial relationships, shape, and kinesthetic response to build trust and dynamic connection within the group. Jaimie guides the session with a focus on discovery, collaboration, and play, supporting performers in sharpening their instincts and listening with their whole bodies.

Ideal for: Actors, movers, and directors interested in ensemble-based performance.

Why This Matters

These workshops reflect a shared value between Untellable and Shakespeare by the Sea: the belief that strong ensembles make bold theatre. By investing in training that emphasizes embodiment, consent, and collaboration, we’re cultivating a process that is just as meaningful as the final production.
