Cameo West

CAMEO Series is an artist-in-residence with the Rotary Arts Centre in Corner Brook this fall and will be producing the inaugural CAMEO West on Sunday, Nov 16, 2pm at the Rotary Arts Centre.

This residency provided the opportunity to finally test the next evolution of the project: CAMEO Workshop Series! This round we're presenting: Robyn Breen and Missy Morris

The workshop series is a way for choreographers to bring their work across the province by collaborating with local artists and community members to begin building or build on cross-provincial connections.

Both choreographers will be given time to continue exploring their work with Corner Brook participants.

Each workshop will close with a 5-minute presentation during CAMEO West, giving Robyn + Missy the chance to share their work with new audiences.

About CAMEO Series:

CAMEO is a quarterly series that prioritizes movement-based work of any style, genre or interpretation. Similar to an open mic for comedians and musicians or a public reading for playwrights, Cameo gives movement creators an ongoing opportunity to showcase ideas without the burden of financial risk or pressure to perform a completed project. This series centres the artists and welcomes audiences to engage with movement-based work at every stage of creation.

The parameters are simple;

10 openings each series

5 mins MAX per slot, ensuring the show is an hour or less.

$5 tickets

No application process, email cameoseries@gmail.com to claim a spot.

Each participant will receive photo and video documentation of their work

Each slot will receive a $100 honorarium for this event.

Togethering & Weathering with Robyn Breen

Togethering is a movement workshop for sensing community with care. We start inside and work our way outward. We practice connecting to each other in movement in the moment. We practice choice making by editing group dynamics in real time. We practice hearing, seeing, sensing each other in space.

We will use Togethering practices to set a Corner Brook chapter of the Weathering Project, to be performed at Cameo. Folks wishing to perform must be present for all workshops.

Introspection and Connection with Missy Morris

What drives us to seek community, and when do we choose to look inwards? How do some lack empathy, while others are more in tune? These questions and more will be investigated in this workshop, exploring the push and pull of connection and isolation when moving through the world, especially during periods of hardship and transition.
