Piper and the Storm
Choreographed & Directed by Lynn Panting
Written by Philip Goodridge
Composed by Kyle McDavid
Piper and the Storm is an original movement-theatre piece inspired by Peter and the Wolf.
This reimagined work blends live music, storytelling, and contemporary movement to create an immersive performance experience for young audiences.
Like many kids, Piper feels overlooked in a busy household. Bored, curious, and determined to prove their independence, Piper heads down to the dock, despite one clear family rule: don’t go out on the boat alone.
Along the way, Piper encounters a moose, a fox, and a gull and slowly begins to see the world a little differently. But, what begins as an adventure quickly turns into something much bigger when a storm rolls in and Piper finds themselves in over their head.
Inspired by Peter and the Wolf
Piper and the Storm keeps what we love about Peter and the Wolf:
Catchy, character-driven musical themes
Instruments as storytelling voices
A clear narrative arc young audiences can follow
But this version adds something new.
Through contemporary movement and embodied storytelling, the music doesn’t just represent characters it lives in the body.
Created With Social Emotional Learning at Heart
This project was developed through engagement with educators, families, and young people, with social-emotional learning at its core.
The story opens space for conversation about:
Feeling ignored or unheard
Impulsivity and consequence
Making assumptions about others
Asking for help
The strength of community
And importantly… it’s funny.
The animals are playful. The characters are recognizable. The storm is thrilling. The rescue is heartwarming. There is humour woven throughout, making the experience joyful and accessible.
We invite young audiences to:
Experience live music as character and narrative
See movement as storytelling
Engage imagination over spectacle
Witness artists working in visible collaboration
This is not simply a retelling. It is an invitation into the creative process itself.
